Pool Opening

On pool opening

Open early. Swim all summer.

Pool opening service for homeowners and property managers in Neenah, Appleton, and Green Bay, taking you from winter cover to crystal-clear water safely and efficiently.

Why it matters

Enjoy your pool and the outdoors in time for spring.

Skip the DIY hassle and the “green pool” nightmare. As the weather warms, the water under a winter cover becomes a breeding ground for algae, and a late opening can cost you hundreds of dollars in shock chemicals and heavy cleaning. A professional opening gets your filtration running and your chemistry balanced before that happens, so you can enjoy every minute of our short Midwest summer.

Whether you need a reliable team for your home or a commercial facility, we’re your Wisconsin pool opening experts. Our team serves residential and commercial pools across Neenah, Green Bay, and Appleton, helping you:

  • Remove and clean winter covers. Professional handling keeps debris from entering your clean water.
  • Reinstall pumps, filters, and heaters. Expert reassembly and system testing ensure peak performance.
  • Balance water chemistry. Precise treatment jumpstarts your swimming season with safe, clear water.
  • Inspect for winter damage. Spotting potential issues early saves you from mid-season repairs.

Book your pool opening appointment today and let our certified technicians handle the hard work so you can dive right in.

What’s included

How we open your pool for the season.

A good opening reverses the closing in the right order, then gets clean water moving as quickly as possible. Here is how our Wisconsin pool opening team takes your pool from winter cover to swim-ready.

  1. Remove the winter cover

On a Full Service Opening, your safety cover comes off carefully, then gets cleaned and folded for summer storage, so the debris sitting on top never ends up in your water.

  2. De-winterize the plumbing

The winter plugs come out, and the drain plugs and return fittings go back in, readying your skimmer and return lines for the season.

  3. Reinstall the equipment

Pumps, filters, and heaters are reinstalled and reassembled, so every piece of your system is back in place and ready to run.

  4. Top off and start up

The water is topped off to its operating level, and the filtration system is started and tested to make sure it runs at peak performance.

  5. Check for winter damage

Every line and component gets checked for winter damage or leaks, so small problems are caught now instead of in the middle of the season.

  6. Add startup chemicals

A first round of season startup chemicals jumpstarts your water clarity. We typically recommend waiting 24 to 48 hours before swimming while the water circulates and the chemistry settles.

When should I open my pool in Wisconsin?

Most Wisconsin homeowners should aim to open their pool in late April to mid-May. Opening before Memorial Day is ideal because it gets the filtration system running and the chemistry balanced before temperatures consistently stay above 70°F, which is when algae begins to bloom rapidly in stagnant water.

What happens if I open my pool too late?

Waiting too long into the spring can lead to a “green opening.” As the weather warms up, the water under your cover becomes a breeding ground for algae. Opening early keeps your water clear and can save you hundreds of dollars in shock chemicals and heavy cleaning later on.

What is included in a professional pool opening?

A professional opening reverses your pool’s winterization and gets the water ready for the season. It includes:

  • Safety cover removal: we carefully remove, clean, and fold your cover for summer storage (Full Service Opening and Signature Pool Start Package).
  • System reassembly: we reinstall all drain plugs, return fittings, and equipment, including pumps, filters, and heaters.
  • Plumbing check: we de-winterize the plumbing and check all lines for winter damage or leaks.
  • Initial water treatment: we add the first round of season startup chemicals to jumpstart your water clarity.

How much does a pool opening cost?

Pool openings start at $357. We offer three options:

  • Start-Up Only Opening, $357. Save by doing the prep work yourself; your cover must be off before we arrive. Includes system reassembly, plumbing de-winterization, and season startup chemicals.
  • Full Service Opening, $457. Our most popular option. We handle everything, including removing your winter cover.
  • Signature Pool Start Package, $957. Everything in the Full Service Opening, plus three professional pool cleanings to get your pool season-ready.

A spa opening can be added for $200, and spa opening chemicals for $100. A $100 travel fee applies to locations more than 30 minutes from our shop.

Do I need to take my cover off before you arrive?

Only if you choose a Start-Up Only Opening, which saves you money in exchange for doing that prep work yourself. With a Full Service Opening or the Signature Pool Start Package, our team removes, cleans, and folds your cover for you.

Does a pool opening include a cleaning?

No. A standard opening gets your system running and starts the water chemistry, but it does not include a cleaning. If you’d like your pool cleaned for the season, just ask, and we’ll schedule a separate visit after the chlorine has dissipated and the water has cleared. Our Signature Pool Start Package bundles a Full Service Opening with three professional cleanings. If there’s an unusually large amount of debris, cleanup may take extra time, and we’ll always talk with you before any additional charges are applied.

Do I need to drain my pool to open it?

No. You should never fully drain your pool without professional guidance, especially in the spring. Wisconsin’s high water table during the spring thaw can cause a drained pool to “pop” out of the ground. We simply remove the winter plugs, top off the water level, and start the filtration process.

How long until I can swim after the opening?

Once the system is running and the initial chemicals are added, we typically recommend waiting 24 to 48 hours for the water to circulate and for the chemicals to balance.

Do you open hot tubs and spas?

Yes. A spa opening can be added to any of our pool opening options, along with spa opening chemicals, so your pool and spa are ready at the same time.

Do you offer weekly pool service after the opening?

Yes. Once your pool is open, our weekly pool service keeps the water clean, balanced, and ready to swim all summer, and we’ll handle your pool closing in the fall.

Where do you offer pool opening service?

Our team opens residential and commercial pools in Neenah, Appleton, Green Bay, and nearby communities across Northeast Wisconsin. Call (920) 725-9155 to get on the opening schedule.
