On fire features
Built-in fire features in masonry block, gas or wood — extending the Wisconsin season to nine good months.
The argument
The first choice isn’t material — it’s whether you want fire on demand or fire where building it is part of the joy. Gas: a switch and a clean flame. Wood: the smell of the smoke, the slow build, the embers still warm at midnight.
Either way, the right answer is built in. A masonry block fire pit for wood, or a masonry block fire table with a gas insert. Anchored, permanent, designed as part of the architecture it sits beside. Portable pits move. Built-in ones don’t.
Fire is what extends a Wisconsin season. Built into the patio, it makes April and October feel like June. The pool has five good months. Your fire feature has nine.
